VoyagePennsylvania: Inspiring Conversations with Diane Herbert of MooreWays – To Mind Health

TMS,Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation,depression therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diane Herbert.TMS,Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, depression therapy

Hi Diane, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The growing mental health crisis effecting our communities, particularly young people, drew me to rebuild my career and focus from that of technology and business to mental health care.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For me personally, obtaining additional degrees and meeting licensing requirements while raising 2 young kids was certainly a challenge! For the practice, figuring out how to be a sustainable small mental health practice despite the burdens that our insurance system places on providers and patients has undoubtably been the biggest challenge. My partner and I are very proud of the fact that we have been able to build a mental health practice that keeps prioritize patient healing and experience in a way that is accessible (affordable) for them while at the same time providing stable and economically rewarding careers for our clinicians.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about MooreWays – To Mind Health?
At MooreWays to Mind Health, our mission is to bring a safer, more effective approach to mental health care. We combine evidence-based therapies like psychotherapy, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and gut health restoration to address mood disorders in a more comprehensive way.

The inspiration for building the practice came from a growing concern we were seeing across the mental health landscape: an increasing reliance on medication management as the primary response to depression and anxiety. While medication can be an important tool for some individuals, too often the focus becomes symptom management rather than understanding and addressing the underlying drivers of mood disorders. And for a large percentage of the population, there is no or little response to medication.

Mental health is complex and deeply interconnected. Our emotional well-being is influenced by our thoughts and behaviors, the functioning of our brain circuits, and biological factors such as hormones, inflammation, and gut health. At MooreWays, we believe better outcomes come from recognizing and addressing these multiple dimensions rather than relying on a single treatment pathway.

Our approach is integrative and personalized. For some patients, psychotherapy may be the central component. For others, treatments like TMS can help restore activity in brain circuits involved in mood regulation. In some cases, improving gut health can significantly support emotional resilience. By thoughtfully evaluating each patient and drawing from the right combination of approaches, we aim to move beyond temporary symptom relief toward more meaningful recovery.

Equally important to us is not losing sight of the person within the treatment process. Mental health care should never feel formulaic or transactional. Every patient’s story, biology, and experience are unique, and our care is designed to reflect that. Our brand stands for thoughtful, individualized care that respects the complexity of mental health while offering patients and families real hope for better outcomes. To improve access to care, we accept all major insurance plans including Medicare.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
That we still have a long way to go in the areas of education, awareness and reversing stigma when it comes to effective treatment for mood and other neurological conditions.

Change is slow and requires consistent multi-tiered approach to help move the needle in the direction of progress – no matter what the research shows – the ecosystem resists change, but there are significant indications of positive system change with in the mental health care field and MooreWays – To Mind Health is passionate about helping bring about that positive change.
